ReadyKids sees record number of referrals for youth trauma counseling program

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A Charlottesville nonprofit is seeing an uptick in the number of youths seeking mental health care for trauma, putting pressure on a program that relies on community support to survive.

ReadyKids’ youth counseling program serves teenagers as old as 18 and kids as young as two with evidence-based and integrative approaches to help them heal from trauma – including neglect, abuse, and violence – all at no cost.

“Kids are struggling, and they need support,” said Eileen Barber, the Donor and Communications Manager for ReadyKids. “There’s just general unrest right now, and people are feeling those stressors acutely. Kids are really perceptive, and when they feel that stress at home, they feel it.”…
