Harrisonburg Starbucks baristas vote to unionize, join Starbucks Workers United

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – Starbucks baristas from the Port Republic and I-81 location in Harrisonburg have officially joined Starbucks Workers United after a 16-1 vote.

With this unionization, the Harrisonburg store is the first in the city to join Starbucks Workers United, and the 23rd in Virginia to do so, according to a release from the union. Workers have also walked out as part of the “Red Cup Rebellion” strike against unfair labor practice, the release added.

Employees at the Port Republic Road location initially declared their intent to unionize in November, with one barista telling WHSV at the time that they’re “fighting for a better workplace.”…
