Staunton jewelry store heist under investigation; over $330k in cash, jewels stolen

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – A massive theft at The Velvet Case, a jewelry store in Staunton, has left employees and the store owner stunned and heartbroken, with approximately $300,000 worth of cash and jewelry stolen in November.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the robbery, with authorities and store employees searching for the person involved.

According to timestamped video camera footage, the suspicious activity started Nov. 30 around 1:30 a.m., when someone started flashing lights into the jewelry store. Just moments later, the robbery began, and it ended around 5:30 a.m., with the thief leaving nothing but an empty safe and a large hole in the wall…
