CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A police presence at IX Park on Tuesday, January 6, was the result of department training.
Kyle Ervin, public safety information officer with the City of Charlottesville, said the training exercise worked to prepare new officers for building searches. The training focused on teaching officers to safely enter and search buildings, mitigate situations, and familiarize themselves with the Charlottesville area.
“We’re trying to educate them on the atmosphere here in the city, the history, what people have been through, the different neighborhoods, familiarizing themselves with everything Charlottesville, so that they can meet people where they are and have empathy for each other and build strong relationships,” Ervin said…
