UVA Expert discusses infectious diseases to look out for in 2026

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Dr. Patrick Jackson, an infectious disease expert with UVA Health, said this year, he’s watching out for viruses like avian flu, mpox, and oropouche, among other continuing threats like measles, influenza, and COVID.

“I think we’re not in a great place right now, unfortunately, to handle emerging viral threats,” Dr. Jackson said.
