Ahead of the storm, business as usual at Charlottesville’s Waffle House

The National Weather Service issued a warning on Jan. 23 to expect a “significant, long-duration winter storm” with heavy snow, sleet, freezing rain and arctic temperatures. Despite forecasts, closures and a state of emergency announcement, as Virginia prepares for the winter storm, one Charlottesville resident posted on Reddit that the local Waffle House at 495 Premier Circle was going to close this weekend.

We talked to an employee, who confirmed it’s actually business as usual.

Across the Southeast, Waffle Houses are frequently used to gauge the severity of weather conditions. An open restaurant, even with limited service, can indicate damage from a storm is limited, but closed, locals know to expect disaster…
