Case against Nelson County woman accused of murder heads to grand jury

NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — The woman charged with killing a man in Nelson County in April 2025 appeared in court on Wednesday.

According to Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Erik Laub, a judge certified charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony during a preliminary hearing for Katelynn Hipes, who is accused of killing Kevin Small.

During the hearing, testimony showed that a FedEx driver found a dead man around 11 a.m. on April 18, 2025, while delivering a package to a home on Serenity Drive. The driver said the man, later identified as Small, was naked and sitting on a tractor…
