CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) – More than half of Americans who have their first heart attacks show no prior symptoms, according to recent data from millions of hospital patients, prompting University of Virginia doctors to expand prevention testing options.
Dr. Todd Villines at UVA said traditional risk factor screening may not adequately predict heart attack risk.
“What we’ve learned is that we’re not doing a great job at predicting who’s gonna have heart attacks and we’re not doing a great job at preventing them,” Villines said.
