Man arrested after alleged assault at Staunton church

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – The Staunton Police Department arrested a man Monday after responding to a report of an assault at St. John’s United Methodist Church.

SPF responded around 7:15 a.m. to a church in the 1700 block of North Augusta Street. There, Randy K. Gibson allegedly assaulted a woman after an argument, causing marks and bruising on her face and hands, according to an SPD release. Gibson was charged with the following:

  • Assault and battery against a family member
  • Violation of a protective order
  • Aggravated malicious wounding

After Gibson was arrested and charged, he was taken to Middle River Regional Jail, SPD said. As of Thursday, Gibson is in custody at Rockingham-Harrisonburg Regional Jail…
