Madison BOS PH – Draft E-Summons Ordinance

Notice of Public Hearing

The Madison County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as permitted under the adopted agenda, in the Auditorium of the Madison County Administration Center, 414 North Main Street, Madison, Virginia 22727. The Board is seeking citizen input on the draft E-Summons Ordinance. Pursuant to Virginia Code Sec. 17.1-279.1, the Board would authorize an additional assessment of $5 as part of the costs in each criminal or traffic case in the district or circuit courts of Madison County. The assessment shall be collected by the clerk of the court in which the action is filed, remitted to the County Treasurer, and held by such treasurer subject to disbursements by the governing body to the Sheriff’s Office solely to fund software, hardware, and associated equipment costs for the implementation and maintenance of an electronic summons system. Citizens wishing to submit written comments may submit comments by 4:30 p.m. on March 5, 2026, to be included in the board meeting packet. Written comments may be emailed to: [email protected].
