VSP investigating crash on I-64 that sent two to hospital with injuries

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) – Virginia State Police is investigating a crash that happened Thursday morning on Interstate 64 around the 96-mile marker in Waynesboro.

An oversized load was traveling east on the interstate, traveling around 35 mph with pilot vehicles in front of and behind it. A white Subaru in the left lane was reportedly cut off by a pickup truck that had abruptly changed lanes from the right lane into the left lane to avoid the oversized load’s pilot vehicle, according to a VSP release.

The Subaru braked suddenly, lost control and hit the rear passenger side of the tractor trailer before crossing back into the right lane and into the median before hitting an embankment. The Subaru then caught fire, VSP said…
