Albemarle County schools see rise in student sickness

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – Albemarle County Public Schools is seeing a rise in student absences and illness, with 15 schools in the district reporting attendance rates below 90% over the past week.

“What we track is what is our absentee rate in our attendance rate, and so whenever it starts to dip below 90% or you know significantly below what the averages of each school is, that just sort of raises some awareness,” said Jason Grant, chief communications officer with Albemarle County Public Schools.

Grant said they are seeing a range of respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses, predominantly in the Northern and Western schools in the district…
