March 13, 2026 (Richmond, VA) — Governor Abigail Spanberger during the annual Virginia Governor’s Cup Gala at Richmond’s Main Street Station awarded the 2026 Virginia Governor’s Cup® to Valley Road Vineyards in Nelson County for its 2023 Cabernet Franc Reserve. Now in its 44th year, the Virginia Governor’s Cup® Competition celebrates the outstanding quality and diversity of wines produced across the Commonwealth. This year, the competition received a record of more than 670 entries, with 224 gold medals awarded to 113 wineries and cideries located across Virginia.

Located in Afton, Virginia, Valley Road Vineyards was founded in 2015 by five couples. It is managed by CEO and founder Stan Joynes, with Corry Craighill serving as winemaker.
