Charlottesville shelters open as unhoused locals along Rivanna Trail brace for storm

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – As severe weather moves across the Commonwealth, unhoused residents living along the Rivanna Trail say they plan to stay to weather the storm.

“I haven’t heard of anybody planning on really moving or leaving. I guess we’re just going to try and hold out,” said Joshua Ballou, who lives along the Rivanna Trail at Free Bridge.

Ballou said ahead of the storm, people at the trail were working together to keep each other safe from any rainfall, damaging winds, or flooding brought on by the river…
