CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – More children are turning to artificial intelligence for emotional support, prompting warnings from University of Virginia experts that the technology is not a substitute for real mental health care.
Doctor Kim Penberthy, a clinical psychologist and professor of research in psychiatric medicine at UVA, said she has mixed feelings about the trend.
“I think it is wonderful that the general population has more access to information. I think that makes everything more equitable. It makes knowledge access more equitable,” Penberthy said. “I think the big concern that I have that I think many parents and professionals and just regular people have is that, you know, we’re not always sure that the information being accessed is accurate.”…
