May 1st has long been a day of protest for labor rights and is known throughout the world as International Workers Day. On that day In 1886, the American Federation of Labor declared a general strike in favor of an eight-hour day.
Groups across the United States are organizing for a similar show of solidarity this Friday called May Day Strong. That includes Indivisible Charlottesville and Charlottesville Democratic Socialists of America who are calling on people to skip work, skip school, and refrain from economic activity.
“We are joining this national campaign as one of many communities across the country building capacity for strike readiness, to lift our voices against ICE violence and US imperialism, and to ensure we defend democratic midterm elections this November,” reads an information release sent out on April 22…
