The Virginia football program had a great 2025 season under head coach Tony Elliott. In fact, it was a season that not many people saw coming, even the great fans in Charlottesville. UVA celebrated a very rare win over Virginia Tech Thanksgiving Weekend that clinched a spot in the ACC Championship Game the following weekend.
The Cavaliers and their fans basked in the glow of their win over the worst Hokies team in some time in the rivalry. However, in typical Virginia fashion, they choked away the ACC Championship Game to a not very good Duke team, which cost them a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff. I mean, who didn’t see that coming?
That came a couple of weeks after Virginia Tech hired James Franklin as their next head coach. That will once again flip the tables in the Commonwealth. With success on the field comes success in recruiting. Elliott and the Cavaliers picked up a big in-state recruiting win over the Hokies in December when wide receiver Demarcus Brown committed to the Hoos. Five months later, it looks like Franklin and his staff are about to swoop in and flip Little Brother’s commitment.
