Doctors encourage measles vaccinations amid Buckingham County outbreak

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – As measles numbers continue to climb in the Commonwealth amid an outbreak in Buckingham County, doctors are highlighting the impact of vaccinations.

“Measles is a highly contagious illness, and we are very worried about particularly our younger babies getting measles,” said Dr. Paige Perriello of Pediatric Associates of Charlottesville. “This is not something we want to happen.”

Dr. Perriello said the two-dose MMR vaccine is typically started at one year old, but amid an outbreak, can be given earlier to protect kids from measles. Signs of infection can include a fever and a red or dark colored rash on the skin…
