TVA considering rate changes as power demand from AI data centers grows

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Tennessee Valley Authority is considering electric rate changes as power demand from large data centers continues growing across the region.

According to reporting from WATE-TV in Knoxville, TVA leaders are discussing whether data centers should eventually fall under a separate rate structure because of the massive amounts of electricity they consume.

The discussion comes as artificial intelligence and cloud computing fuel rapid growth in energy-hungry data centers throughout the South.
