CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — I recently returned from a quick fly-fishing trip to Middle Tennessee. The occasion was my nephew’s, Miles Workman, birthday. I normally call him my “little nephew,” even though this trip was actually for his 21st birthday. In my mind, there is no way he can be that old. If he’s 21, that means I’m… well, never mind.
Miles wanted to spend his birthday on the water with me and bring along his friend Evan, so we planned a trip to the Stones River.
By this time of year, I’ve usually put trout fishing on hold. Once May passes, I don’t target trout again until October. Since I practice catch-and-release, I don’t like stressing trout during the summer when warm water holds less oxygen and their chances of survival after release are much lower.
Instead, I turn my attention to what may be my favorite fish of all – the mighty bream…
