CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Chattanooga’s Walnut Street Bridge is set to reopen next month after an 18-month restoration project aimed at preserving the 136-year-old landmark.
The bridge’s fresh blue paint may be the most noticeable change, but city officials say the work went far beyond its appearance.
Crews used more than 200,000 pounds of steel, replaced 2,369 linear feet of decking and installed 18,500 linear feet of new post-tensioning cables.
