EAST RIDGE, Tenn. — Volunteers in East Ridge are getting their hands dirty to keep trash out of the Tennessee River, clearing hundreds of pounds of litter from a creek and showing how small efforts can make a big difference.
Volunteers with NewsChannel 9, TVFCU and WaterWays gathered at Spring Creek in East Ridge for a Clean Currents cleanup focused on removing trash from a litter boom.
The boom acts as a barrier, catching floating debris before it can travel farther downstream into larger waterways such as the Tennessee River.
“We are cleaning up trash from the Spring Creek litter boom,” said Amber Doolittle Community Outreach at TVFCU. “All the trash that is washed into that boom, we’ve got volunteers, we’ve got our waders on, our gloves, our trash pickers and we are cleaning up all the trash from the creek before it flows into the into the Tennessee River.”…
