Chattanooga closes South Chickamauga Creek Greenway downstream amid sewer overflow

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — An active sanitary sewer overflow is affecting South Chickamauga Creek along the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway, prompting temporary closures and restrictions as Chattanooga crews work to reach and repair the source.

The City of Chattanooga’s Wastewater Department says that, as a precaution to protect public health and safety, everything downstream of the South Chick Creek Greenway Pedestrian Bridge is temporarily closed to all recreational activities.

Access to the Tennessee River is also currently restricted. Areas upstream of the pedestrian bridge will remain open…
