Hamilton County commissioner questions HCSO after Chattanooga Prep family deported

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Hamilton County Commissioner Warren Mackey says he wants residents to know he is looking into whether local law enforcement played any role outside its authority in the deportation of a Chattanooga Prep student and his family.

Mackey made the comments Wednesday following the deportation of Anastasio Tomas, who is now in Guatemala with his family after being taken into custody by ICE last month.

“And I just want to make sure that people in my district and in this county know that we are checking with the sheriff’s department to make sure they’re not doing anything out of line,” Mackey says.

Tomas had been a student at Chattanooga Preparatory. He previously told NewsChannel 9 that ICE agents stopped him and one of his brothers while they were on their way to school and later deported the family to Guatemala…
