January 29, 2024, CHATTANOOGA, TN – In a dramatic incident on I-75 near Ooltewah, Tennessee, two Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputies were shot following a pursuit involving an armed suspect from Catoosa County and a kidnapped 18-month-old child. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office successfully employed a spike strip and boxed in the vehicle, leading to shots being exchanged between the suspect and deputies. The armed suspect succumbed to injuries on the scene, while both deputies, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, were transported to a local hospital. Fortunately, the kidnapped child, while not seriously hurt, received medical attention. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting an inquiry into the incident, and Northbound I-75 will undergo temporary closure for investigative purposes, driver’s are being urged to find alternate routes.
