Georgia Kidnapping Suspect Killed After Shootout With Tennessee Deputies

The chase came to an end on Interstate 75 when deputies deployed a spike strip

A man accused of kidnapping a toddler from Georgia and taking them across state lines was killed in a shootout during a confrontation with Tennessee deputies.

With an 18-month-old in tow, Tyler L. Roberts, 31, led authorities on an armed pursuit from north Georgia into south Hamilton County, Tennessee, Sunday evening, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

It’s unclear the relationship between the suspect and the child.

The chase came to an end on Interstate 75 when deputies deployed a spike strip, disabling the fleeing vehicle, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Roberts then shot at responding deputies, injuring two officers.

He was killed when they returned fire.
