CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Bessie Smith Cultural Center has some events coming throughout the next couple weeks. One of them is the Steele Home Project. This home started by Almira Steele, a woman from Boston who arrived in 1884, to help kids who were black, over the age of ten, disabled, or diseased. She grew the operation to about 1,600 children. This event is free and is happening Friday, February 1st.
