Man Arrested for Threatening Shooting at Hamilton County Courts Building

February 6, 2024, HAMILTON CO., TN – A tense situation unfolded on Monday at the Hamilton County Courts Building when a man allegedly made threats of a shooting, prompting swift action from law enforcement.

According to reports from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the incident began when a Hamilton County clerk received a call from a man who became agitated upon being informed that direct contact with a judge was not permissible. The caller proceeded to threaten a mass shooting targeting law enforcement officers at the courthouse.

In response to the gravity of the threat, the Lieutenant in charge of Judicial Security Services took immediate action to secure the courthouse premises.

Through diligent investigative work, HCSO was able to identify the individual making the threats as 30-year-old Tyler Jordan Spence. Recognizing the threat to public safety, arrest warrants and a search warrant were swiftly issued.

HCSO coordinated a comprehensive operation involving Investigative Services detectives, Uniformed Services deputies, and the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (S.W.A.T.) to apprehend Spence. A high-risk arrest and search warrant were executed at an address in Red Bank, resulting in Spence’s apprehension without further incident.
