The Dalton Mayor and Council held their regular meeting on Monday night. They recognized the 10 & Under and 8 & Under boys soccer teams from the Dalton Parks and Recreation Department for their recent state championship wins. The meeting agenda was made public.
A key decision made was the approval of a contract for the July 4th fireworks. The council agreed with Pyrotecnico Fireworks, Inc. to organize the annual fireworks display at Heritage Point Park. Councilmember Steve Farrow suggested that future displays could be held at the John Davis Recreation Center on Civid Drive after its renovation. Parks and Recreation Director Caitlin Sharpe proposed that events could take place at the center with fireworks launched from the North Georgia Fairgrounds.
The council approved the installation of speed cameras in two school zones. The contract with Blue Line Solutions, LLC. will place speed detection cameras in the school speed zone for Dalton High School on Waugh Street and the Roan Street School on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. Dalton Police Chief Cliff Cason stated that the cameras would only be operational during school hours and not on weekends, holidays, or when schools are not in session. The cameras are expected to be operational by the start of the 2024-25 school year.
