KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the events leading up to an officer-involved shooting Thursday night involving officers with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the TBI, preliminary information indicates that the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was conducting “an enforcement operation” in the 4800 block of Highway 58 in Chattanooga. During this operation, deputies told a man to exit his vehicle in an attempt to take him into custody. However, the TBI said the driver refused to comply and attempted to flee.

TBI continued that while he was fleeing, he struck at least one deputy and three unoccupied civilian vehicles with his vehicle. At this point, two deputies fired at the man, hitting him at least once. He was taken to an area hospital. One deputy was also taken to the hospital for precautionary treatment.
