The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) is enrolling students for its Bachelor of Applied Science: Information Technology in Cybersecurity (BAS-IT CyS) program for fall 2024. This one-year undergraduate degree program includes a paid internship with a partner organization. It is suitable for students with an associate or bachelor’s degree in any field who have a basic understanding of IT systems.
The BAS-IT CyS program emphasizes practical learning. Lisa Tarr, the program coordinator, states that the curriculum develops both soft skills and technical proficiency. The program requires fewer general education and science courses than UTC’s four-year computer science and computer engineering tracks. It is a fully accredited bachelor’s degree program at UTC.
The program is structured into two seven-week terms per semester. Students take three courses and intern on weekdays from 1-5 p.m. during these terms. Due to the demanding coursework and internship, students are advised against having a second job. UTC offers support to students in the program to help them succeed.
