Lee University plans to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and celebrate Black History Month with events from February 17 to March 19. These events were initially set for January 15 but were delayed due to snow. They will include seminars, exhibits, music performances, and more. Gloria Scott-Richmond, the director of the Office of Racial and Ethnic Relations at Lee, said this period will inspire and educate people about Dr. King’s work.
The events will start on February 17 with a community worship service at the Walker Lecture Hall in the Science and Math Complex (SMC). From February 19 to 29, exhibits showcasing historical figures will be displayed in various campus buildings. On February 19, the Living Museum will feature students from Lee and other local schools acting as historical figures in the Higginbotham Administration Building’s Centenary Room.
On February 20, there will be an MLK Jr. Civil Rights Quiz Bowl in the Walker Lecture Hall, and Reading Rooms for grades Pre-K – 12 in Squires Library. The Drum Circle, open to everyone, will be on February 22 in the SMC Great Room. On February 29, there will be an interactive art activity in the Communication Arts Building, followed by Music of Civil Rights at the Cultural Center at 5ive Points Museum.
