Chattanooga, TN – According to the officials, the grand opening of Station 15 on Shallowford Road marks the completion of a $5 million project that has been in the works for years. The old 63-year-old Station 15 was demolished last year, and the new fire station was built on the same footprint.
The new facility is a 9,500-square-foot, two-bay fire station designed to accommodate more personnel and apparatus, providing room for expansion as Chattanooga’s population grows.
It features modern amenities, including a kitchen, living area, sleeping rooms, showers, locker rooms, an outdoor patio, a hardened shelter, and a gym.
New technologies have also been integrated to improve response times and offer protective measures for emergency responders and their equipment.
Chattanooga Fire Chief Phil Hyman praised the new building, calling it “a symbol of the dedication and professionalism of our firefighters.”
The fire department had been advocating for a new station for years, and the project was made possible through capital funding from the City Council and Mayor Tim Kelly’s administration.
