EPA pulls $20M grant, jeopardizing future of Alton Park connector trail

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — Some Alton Park residents are concerned about the future of the area after federal grant funding was pulled from a project that would’ve created a trail connected to Chattanooga’s Riverwalk.

The Environmental Protection Agency pledged $20 million to the Alton Park connector project last year. Now, the EPA has terminated that grant.

Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly called the move “extremely disappointing” and a “missed opportunity.”
