Jury to deliberate fate of former Chattanooga teacher charged with molesting his students

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The fate of a former Chattanooga teacher charged with molesting his first grade students while in class will soon be in the hands of the jury.

Duane Sanders was indicted on charged with committing 19 different crimes against 9 of his students. Those charges include continuous sexual abuse of a child and aggravated sexual battery.

The defense rested its case early Thursday morning, after Sanders announced that he would not testify on his behalf, which is his constitutional right.

Closing statements will follow from the prosecution and defense.

Then, the judge will charge the jury, informing them of ways they could rule on all of the charges Sanders is facing…
