Back on track: Chattanooga’s Incline Railway set to reopen next week

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The historic Incline Railway at Lookout Mountain is poised to reopen next week after extensive repairs kept it closed for 8 months, thanks to a wildfire that caused significant damage.

We got a first look at the revamped tourist attraction on Wednesday.

The fire, triggered by a rock slide, spread to the tracks, causing significant destruction.

“We lost over 1,000 feet of the rail itself,” said Charles Frazier, CEO of CARTA, which operates the railway. “We lost over 200 railroad ties. And then, very importantly, for the incline, we lost the cable system, which is how the vehicles move up and down the mountain.”…
