HCSO Corrections Deputies Honored for Life-Saving Actions

Last week, Sheriff Austin Garrett formally recognized several Corrections Services personnel with commendations for their life-saving actions during recent incidents at the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.

Corrections Deputy Isaiah Word was awarded a commendation for his exceptional response during a life-threatening incident in January 2025. Deputy Word quickly applied a tourniquet to control bleeding that ultimately saved an inmate’s life.

Corrections Sergeant Jeremy Poteet and Corrections Deputies Timothy Higgins, Hunter Whaley, and Brandon Muhleback were also honored for their swift and effective response to an inmate overdose in October 2024. The team administered CPR, Narcan, and provided assisted ventilation with an Ambu-Bag, helping to stabilize the individual until emergency medical services arrived.
