WALKER COUNTY, GA — A Heat Advisory will be in effect from 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, through 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, covering all of Walker County. The National Weather Service is warning of heat index values ranging from 105 to 109 degrees during this period.

Hot temperatures combined with high humidity levels will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for those spending extended periods outdoors or without access to air conditioning.

Officials urge residents to take the following precautions:

  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the peak heat hours.
  • Check on elderly neighbors, young children, and pets, who are especially vulnerable to heat-related issues.

Heat illnesses such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke can develop quickly in these conditions. If you or someone around you shows signs of dizziness, confusion, excessive sweating, or unconsciousness, seek medical attention immediately…
