FBI warns of rising swatting incidents after ‘false alarms’ in Chattanooga and beyond

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — Recent threats of violence at colleges and businesses in Tennessee have put law enforcement on high alert.

The FBI says false calls are not only costly to law enforcement, but also to the mental health of those directly affected by them.

Just last week, UTC received a false report of an active shooter, as well as Villanova University in Pennsylvania.

Over the weekend, the Chattanooga Airport received a false bomb threat, and the University of South Carolina was the victim of a swatting hoax…
