Free speech group says UTC violated First Amendment with Greek life activities pause

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — U.T.C. paused all Greek activities last week in the wake of an investigation into one fraternity’s hazing. But a national free speech advocacy group says the university is violating those students’ First Amendment right.

The group Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) wrote a letter to U.T.C. last week, saying in part, “The university can’t punish a student organization that’s engaged in no wrongdoing, solely because it’s similar to another organization.”
