Mocs volleyball fights hard in Classic finale despite sweep

The Chattanooga Mocs concluded the 2025 Chattanooga Classic with a 3-0 loss to Jacksonville State on Saturday night at McKenzie Arena. Despite the defeat, the Mocs showcased resilience and individual standout performances.

Jacksonville State came out strong in the opening set, quickly building a 15-10 lead by the media timeout and never letting Chattanooga back in, closing the frame 25-19. The Mocs responded in the second set, cutting an early deficit to 11-10 with two quick 3-0 scoring bursts and showing glimpses of momentum. However, the Gamecocks regained control with a decisive 7-1 run, ultimately taking the set 25-15 and putting Chattanooga on the defensive.

The third set was the most competitive of the night. Jacksonville State opened with a strong start, racing to a 12-6 lead and forcing Chattanooga to call a timeout to regroup. The Mocs responded with a determined run, stringing together a series of smart serves, effective blocks, and timely kills to trim the deficit to 20-17. The crowd at McKenzie Arena came alive as Chattanooga fought to stay within striking distance.
