Tall Betsy returns: Cleveland’s beloved Halloween goblin rises again

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — She’s tall, she’s spooky, and she’s officially back.

Cleveland, Tennessee’s favorite ghoul, Tall Betsy, is set to rise once more this Halloween night — right on cue at sunset, 6:46 p.m. sharp — at her historic haunt on Centenary Avenue NW.

A towering 7-foot-6.5-inch “Lady in Black,” Tall Betsy has been a fixture of Cleveland folklore for more than four decades.

The local legend began in 1980 when businessman Allan Jones brought to life old neighborhood tales of a mysterious figure who prowled the streets in the 1920s and ‘30s, warning kids to head home before dark…
