HCSO Deputies Awarded Life-Saving Medal

On Thursday, Sheriff Austin Garrett awarded the Sheriff’s Life-Saving Medal to Deputies Teddy Dyer and Jonathan Mueller for their efforts to save a man’s life during a medical emergency on April 10, 2025.

That day, while on patrol, Deputy Dyer observed a stopped vehicle on Highway 58 with two men standing outside. Upon arrival, he found the driver unresponsive and without a pulse. Acting immediately, he began one-person CPR and continued lifesaving measures until Deputy Jonathan Mueller arrived to assist. Together, they administered two AED shocks before EMS arrived and continued CPR.

Passenger statements indicated the group was visiting from Michigan and had spent the day golfing when the driver suddenly lost consciousness. The patient was known to be diabetic and had a previous stent, but no known heart issues…
