Chattanooga-area food banks brace for surge as government shutdown threatens SNAP benefits

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Food banks across our area are preparing for the possible loss of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (or SNAP) benefits as the federal government shutdown continues.

Melissa Blevins of the Chattanooga Area Food Bank says, while their work helps feed the community, SNAP reaches a wider audience.
