Tennessee families breathe a sigh of relief as full SNAP benefits return after shutdown

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — Tennessee families who rely on SNAP will start getting their full November benefits on Monday, November 17, according to the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

Here’s what SNAP households need to know right away:

  • If you already got a partial November payment: The rest of your November benefits will be added to your EBT card starting Monday, the department says.
  • If you haven’t gotten any November benefits yet: You should get your full November amount in the coming days.
  • If you normally get benefits on the 18th, 19th, or 20th: Your schedule stays the same. Your benefits will show up on your regular date.
  • December SNAP benefits will go out in full on customers’ usual date.

The update comes after the end of the federal government shutdown. USDA has directed states to return to the traditional calculation tables that determine monthly benefit amounts, allowing Tennessee to issue normal totals again.

“The benefits today really gave me a sigh of relief, because we need them.”
