HAMILTON County, Tenn. (WATE) — Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are investigating after deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office shot a driver who was inside a stolen vehicle early Saturday morning.
The TBI said Saturday afternoon that around 1 a.m., the deputies were investigating a report that a vehicle was stolen near the 4300 block of Highway 58. The deputies found the vehicle at a nearby gas station and tried to make contact with the driver.

For reasons that are under investigation, the TBI said the situation escalated and resulted in two deputies firing at the vehicle, striking the driver, who was subsequently hospitalized. Neither of the deputies were injured.
TBI agents are investigating the shooting at the request of 11th Judicial District Attorney General Coty Wamp. The agents act as fact-finders and are working independently to determine the series of events to determine what led to the shooting.
