NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Tennessee death row inmate who brutally murdered a Chattanooga State student in Brainerd almost 4 decades ago has officially declined to choose how the state will put him to death next month.
On Monday, Harold Wayne Nichols, who was sentenced to death in 1990 for the rape and murder of 20-year-old Karen Pulley, did not select between the electric chair or lethal injection for his December 11 execution date.
Because he did not choose, the state will default to lethal injection.
