Street shut down after partial building collapse in downtown Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A street has been shut down indefinitely after part of a building gave way Tuesday morning in downtown Chattanooga.

This is at the 1000 block of Houston Street.

Our NewsChannel 9 SkyView camera was overhead as fire crews, police and city engineers moved in to secure the block between East 10th and East 11th streets.

The City of Chattanooga says the collapse forced an emergency closure of Houston Street while building engineers check the stability of the structure and look for any possible damage to underground utilities.

Officials are asking both drivers and pedestrians to avoid the area entirely…
