CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — After more than 37 years of grief, a family plans to finally see the Chattanooga man who brutally murdered a woman in a Brainerd apartment face execution next week.
Lisette Monroe was 23 years old and a new mother in 1988 when her younger sister, Karen Pulley, was raped and killed. The man responsible was arrested months later for a string of other rapes and burglaries around Chattanooga and confessed to police. Now, Harold Nichols is scheduled to be executed by the state of Tennessee on Dec. 11. Monroe says she is ready for it to be over.
In 1988, Monroe had just returned to the United States after living three years on an Air Force base in the Philippines with her husband. One of the things she had missed most was daily contact with her sister. The two had written letters and shared phone calls, but it was not the same as being together in person in Chattanooga…
