Bright and early: Cold temps don’t keep donors, volunteers from helping get Coats for Kids

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — Donations are rolling in for our annual Coats for Kids drive at Camp Jordan in East Ridge.

Residents have been dropping off coats Thursday morning as part of the program, which partners with The Forgotten Child Fund.

If you can’t join us at Camp Jordan, here’s where you can learn how to make a contribution online.

“I was a teacher several years ago, and a lot of my students benefited from receiving the coats from Kids for Kids. They were so excited when they came to school with their new coats,” Ann Pitre told us.

Kelly Simmons with The Forgotten Child Fund says community support is essential to keeping the program going.

It means so much to our organization,’ Simmons said. ‘I don’t know if people realize, if you have to buy coats, and you see it when you go buy those coats, for 4,500 kids, you start figuring that 60 to 70 dollars per coat. Without our community reaching out and pouring in support, we wouldn’t be able to keep this program sustainable…
